The Coalition for Access to Psychotherapy (CAP) is a group of organizations working to improve care and services in mental health. CAP believes that psychotherapy services should be available under the public healthcare system to all people suffering from mental illness who would benefit from such services.
The Coalition for Access to Psychotherapy was first convened in March 2013 by the Graham Boeckh Foundation and the Fondation Jeunes en Tête to improve access to psychotherapy services in Québec. CAP was formed following the recommendation made by the Health and Welfare Commissioner of Québec in his assessment of mental healthcare services.
CAP seeks to inform the public on issues surrounding access to psychotherapy services. It has been working with relevant government agencies on the development of strategies to advance this important dossier.
In December 2017, the Québec Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS) announced a substantial investment to increase access to psychotherapy services in Québec. CAP welcomes the investment as a significant commitment by the government to make psychotherapy services available to all those who require them.
