The Graham Boeckh Foundation congratulates Dr. Gustavo Turecki on winning the fourth annual Dr. Samarthji Lal award for mental health research. Turecki, MD, PhD, is Professor and Vice-Chair, Research and Academic Affairs, Department of Psychiatry, McGill University; Director, McGill Group for Suicide Studies; and Head, Depressive Disorders Program, Douglas Mental Health Institute.
The Dr. Samarthji Lal Award recognizes a Canadian researcher who is mid-career and making an outstanding contribution to the field of psychiatry, with a focus on major mental disorders. The recipient is selected through an open, Canada-wide competition judged by an independent review panel of internationally renowned researchers. The panel was impressed by Dr. Turecki’s innovative, out-of-the-box approach to research on suicide.
