The Graham Boeckh Foundation congratulates Dr. Jeffrey Meyer on winning the fifth annual Dr. Samarthji Lal award for mental health research.  Dr. Meyer MD, PhD, FRCP(C), is Canada Research Chair in the Neurochemistry of Major Depression; Head, Neurochemical Imaging Program in Mood Disorders, Campbell Family Mental Health Research Institute, CAMH; and Professor, Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto.

The panel was impressed by Dr. Meyer’s work in applying positron emission tomography imaging to discover abnormalities associated with a major depressive episode, to quantitate the effects of antidepressant treatments, and to identify new links between environmental factors and the neurobiology of major depressive disorder.

The Dr. Samarthji Lal Award recognizes a Canadian researcher who is mid-career and making an outstanding contribution to the field of psychiatry, with a focus on major mental disorders. The recipient is selected through an open, Canada-wide competition judged by an independent review panel of internationally renowned researchers.
